AI integration in software engineering (CITIC)

Institution: University of Costa Rica

What it is

Research line at the Research Center on TIC (CITIC) that designs and integrates AI strategies into key software lifecycle processes: requirements engineering, automatic code generation, automated defect repair, and automated testing.

Verified results

Consolidated line with outputs in postgraduate courses, academic publications, and participation in Pura Vida AI Forum 2025. Lead: Dr. Christian Quesada-López. Featured publication: "Machine Learning-Based Flood Prediction: A Tertiary Study" (CITIC-UCR), a tertiary study that systematizes existing literature on machine-learning-based flood prediction.

Context

The first Costa Rican academic project with documented methodology on AI applied to software engineering. It connects postgraduate training with applied research and positions UCR as a regional reference in the area. The tertiary study on flood prediction extends the applications line beyond the software lifecycle into climate-risk management.
